- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15703644, 5 years agoКогда любое ПО становится популярным, возникает вопрос об его этичности по отношению к пользователям. Проблемы с правами доступа к IP твоего компа нет - dns API только позволяет резолвить доменные имена используя твой DNS, просто firefox показывает неправильное сообщение:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1617861
https://pontoon.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/all-resources/?string=176403
Прежде чем прекратить использовать uBlock Origin и писать негативный отзыв о правах на доступ к IP, пожалуйста потрать немного своего времени, чтобы прочитать что пишет об этом разработчик:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Permissions#access-ip-address-and-hostname-information
https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/780
В теории, всё может повредить твоей анонимности, но это не похоже на повод для излишнего беспокойства. Однако в случае, если ты используешь SOCKS5 и переживаешь за утечку DNS, обрати внимание на эти треды:
https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/911
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1618271

When any software becomes popular, there rises a question on it's ethics related to it's users. uBlock Origin does not access your host's IP - dns API only allows to resolve domain names using your DNS, but firefox seems to mislead users on that matter showing confusing prompts:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1617861
Before you stop using uBlock Origin and write negative review on IP permissions issue, please spare some of your time to read what developer tells about this:
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Permissions#access-ip-address-and-hostname-information
https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/780
In theory, everything can damage your anonimity, but it seems there's no need to worry too much on that case.
But if you use SOCKS5 and care about DNS leaking, check those threads:
https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBlock-issues/issues/911
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1618271
I hope developers are really just trying to make another way of tracking people impossible. While firefox/extension developers should fix possibility of local DNS leaks.
BTW, you can disable this feature: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Advanced-settings#cnameuncloak

- Rated 5 out of 5by ForeFix, 5 years agoTo the people who write and spread negative reviews about the "Access IP address and hostname information" permission, please go read the patchnotes that the developer take the time to write for us for each release (+githud issues for more infos) instead of ranting and spreading misinformations. This new permission is used to uncloak hidden nasty new ways of tracking, and reveals tons of hidden CDNs in the process.
uBlock is an open source, featured extension, and Firefox developers work very closely with its developer (guess which is the first extension supported by Firefox Preview on Android?). There are plenty of contributors, meaning the code is audited by many people.
Honestly, I'm glad we have an extension like uBO with so much security and privacy features & vigilance, and actively developed through all those years.
Kudos to the main dev and all the contributors. Thanks for helping us with your hard quality work! - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 15702762, 5 years agoPeople should really do more research before they write reviews. The new version is asking for "IP address and hostname information" due to a Firefox update that makes add-ons display this wording if they use the DNS API. It does not actually collect your machine's IP/hostname, contrary to what other people are claiming.
