With the passage of time, this extension has worked better and more smoothly and by now (early 2025) provides a surprisingly direct, successful download with a helpful variety of modes to choose from, all in a way that does not require an advanced course in computer programming (thank goodness for small miracles). Works well on a wide variety of sites. You do need to buy a license if you want to avoid a QR code on some videos, but that's not unreasonable. I did not at first notice a very valuable feature, which is to select the download resolution on some videos
